The Coffee House is "Virtual" for now...

I added the word "virtual" to the welcome message at the top of the page. One earnest reader was confused, and wrote to ask me where the new coffee house is! Don't we wish... BTW, when I first heard about Busboys & Poets coming to EYA, I figured that might also serve to satisfy our coffee house needs somewhat. But i don't see the word coffee even mentioned on their website, let alone in their menus. So maybe I'm wrong. Would still love to hear from someone who's been to the one at 14th & Columbia NW.

Busboys and Poets in DC is very hip/socially conscience/filled with people.

The book store is very heavy on social issues e.g. race, social justice, war and peace, etc. The fairly large restaurant has a fair bit of shared lounge/couch seating and tables and a bar. There are laptops being used aplenty. Then in the back of the restaurant is a separate room with resaurant tables and a small stage. On the stage they mostly have authors speaking about their books. I saw the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai speak who was powerful.

Overall if anything like this comes to Hyattsville, I think this would be a grand slam.

That does sound excellent - and a perfect fit for the 'arts community' envisioned here.

But, Jonathan -- how's the coffee? :o)

I'll second all of Jonathan's comments, and add that the coffee is quite good (ditto for the food and other drinks as well), in the same basic price range as Franklin's. In addition to Nobel Prize winners, the 14th street location also hosts a variety of local authors, university professors, and even panels related to social issues. It will be a great addition to the neighborhood!

Thanks, Charity. I'll be there!
